The Foundation is deeply saddened by the loss of Allen and Ann Hubbard of Vero Beach, FL. last year. The Hubbard’s were supporters of the GCBS when the American Diabetes Association was the benefactor. They also contributed generously to the GCBS under the March of Dimes and to the CEEF scholarship. Ann Hubbard was Cynthia Earley’s Aunt and our family was fortunate to attend a remembrance in their honor in Norfolk, CT. this summer hosted by Cynthia’s sister, Cecily Mermann. Allen and Ann gave to numerous causes throughout their life that assisted hundreds of people. We will miss them very much and our love goes out to their family.
The Foundation has surpassed $12,500 in scholarships given out to ten (10) students since 1999. The GCBS charities including the March of Dimes and the Chesapeake Bay Trust have been a major benefactor with the average scholarship winner raising five times the entry fee of $250. The faces of the student as they are handed their scholarship and remembering the love Cynthia Earley had for children can make for an emotional day on the shores of the Chesapeake. We have contributors who themselves were unable to attend college but have seen the value in supporting our future leaders in the community. Help us honor these young people with a small contribution. You never know, they might be taking care of your pet one day like Erin Luley!
